KnowIt is an open-source, modular, privacy-first browser extension for reading the web. Page content stays on your device by default and is not uploaded to KnowIt; model calls use your own API key. It installs on Chrome and Edge.
Does KnowIt upload page content?
No. Page content, selections, in-page find history, and generation results stay in your browser by default. KnowIt does not run a server that receives them.
How do the AI tools work?
Content summary, selection translation, word lookup, and smart writing use your own API key. DeepSeek, OpenAI, Gemini, Moonshot (Kimi), Alibaba DashScope, and SiliconFlow are supported.
What is free, and what is paid?
Text search, the media downloader, ad cleaner, and element inspector are free. Page export, content summary, selection translation, word lookup, and smart writing are part of the lifetime license at ¥6.66.
Which browsers can I install it on?
Chrome and Microsoft Edge. The source is public on GitHub.
How is KnowIt different from full-page translators or assistant extensions?
KnowIt is split into tools you install only if you use them. Page content stays on your device by default, and model calls use your API key rather than a KnowIt account.
